With Lockdown 2.0 just around the corner, it’s high time to amp up your support for the independent music scene – an industry that has been one of the hardest hit during this difficult period. One of the ways to do this is by tuning into public and Internet radio to hear your favourite artists and labels on the airwaves. Many of these stations are listener supported: help them do what no mainstream radio is doing by pledging your listenership and financial support.

Another Bristol station making waves, Noods broadcasts daily from the heart of Stokes Croft and dips their toes into dance music, world sounds and anything in between. Fresh from a brand revamp, you can also hear from their esteemed resident DJs – such as Manami, Mix Nights alumni, Bruce and Ellie Stokes – on their newly-established FM station.
Beginning life as pirate radio in the 90s, Rinse FM was at the forefront of bringing grime to listeners before it garnered the mainstream popularity it has now. In its infancy, it provided a platform for little-known artists as Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and Skepta. Since then, it has widened its streaming net to feature selectors like Skream, Ben UFO and Fabio & Grooverider taking centre stage.
Based out of Peckham, Balamii has been throwing their weight behind the UK underground scene since 2014 and has since grown to be not only an Internet radio station for the most original DJs, but also an events outfit and video and editorial production house. On the Balamii airwaves is where you might have first heard of now-renowned artists like Novelist, HAAi, NiNE8 COLLECTIVE and Folamour.
